Squares Terms of Service
Effective date: November 5, 2026 · Version 1.0
Summary (the full Terms below control):
- Squares is a tool for running a game day squares grid with people you know.
- We never collect, hold or pay out anyone's money. Any money moves directly between people, and we can't see it or get it back.
- Whether your pool is legal depends on where you live, and that's on you. Don't use Squares where it isn't allowed.
- You must be 18+ and in the US.
- Your first grid is free. Each grid after that is a one-time $1, and that fee is generally not refundable.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and 3BSI LLC, a Michigan limited liability company ("Squares," "we," "us"), and govern your use of the Squares website and emails (the "Service"). They apply to you if you create an account and make a grid (an "Organizer") and if you pick squares through a share link, with or without an account (a "Player"). By creating an account, or by saving squares on a grid, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
These Terms contain a binding arbitration agreement and class-action waiver (Section 14), which affect how disputes are resolved. You may opt out within 30 days.
1. What Squares is
Squares lets an Organizer make a 10 × 10 grid and share a private link. Players use the link to pick squares. When the grid is full, the Organizer locks it and the Service draws the numbers 0 to 9 for each side at random. The Organizer enters the score for each quarter, and the Service shows which square wins based on the last digit of each team's score.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, a resident of the United States, and able to form a binding contract. This applies to Organizers and Players. One person may use only one account.
3. We don't run pools or handle money
- Squares is software, not a pool. We don't organize, operate, promote or take part in any pool. Each grid is created and run by its Organizer.
- We never handle pool money. We don't collect, hold, transfer or pay out entry money or winnings, and we don't take a share of any of it. The only money we receive is the fee in Section 5, which an Organizer pays us for using the Service.
- Any payment is between people. Showing a Venmo or Cash App username, or that a Player chose cash, is only a way for people to find each other. We don't check that a username is real or belongs to the person who gave it. We can't confirm that anyone paid, and we can't reverse, refund or recover a payment.
- Payouts are the Organizer's. Any payout amount on a grid is what its Organizer entered. We don't hold, guarantee or pay it, and we don't check that it matches the money collected.
- Fundraisers are the Organizer's. Any cause shown on a grid is what its Organizer entered. We don't check it, aren't connected to it, and don't confirm that any money reaches it. Don't list a cause you aren't really raising money for.
- "Paid" means only what the Organizer ticked. It's the Organizer's own note and isn't confirmation of any payment.
- Disagreements are between you. If someone doesn't pay, doesn't pay out, or disputes a result, that's between the people involved. We don't decide or mediate these disputes.
4. Following the law, and other companies' rules
Laws on betting and pools vary by state and locality, and can depend on things like the amount of money involved and whether the organizer keeps a share. We don't give legal advice, and we don't promise that any use of Squares is legal where you are.
- You are responsible for making sure that your pool, and your part in it, is legal where you and your participants are, including any rule on licenses, permits, prizes or taxes. Don't use the Service where it isn't allowed.
- Payment apps have their own rules. Venmo, Cash App and similar services may restrict payments for gambling, and may limit or close accounts. Following their rules is your responsibility.
- Fundraising. Raising money for a charity, school or other cause can bring extra rules, such as charitable gaming licenses, charitable solicitation registration or the cause's own permission. Following them is your responsibility.
- Taxes. Reporting and paying any tax on winnings or on running a pool is the responsibility of those involved.
No affiliation. Squares isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any sports league, team, event or broadcaster, or by Venmo, PayPal, Cash App or Block. Their names belong to their owners. Team names on a grid are entered by its Organizer.
5. Grid fees
- Your first grid is free. Each person gets one free grid, once.
- Each grid after that is a one-time fee of $1, in US dollars and excluding any applicable taxes. It's charged when you create the grid. There's no subscription and nothing renews. Current prices are shown before you pay, and those prices control.
- An unpaid grid is a draft. Its link doesn't work until the fee is paid. Once a grid is live, it stays usable without further fees for as long as we offer the Service.
- Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. We don't store your full card number.
- Refunds. Except where required by law or as stated in Section 10, fees are non-refundable, including if your grid doesn't fill up or your game doesn't happen. If you believe you were charged in error, contact info@fillthesquares.com within 60 days of the charge and we will review it.
We may change prices for grids you haven't yet paid for.
6. Organizers
If you create a grid, you are responsible for it and how you run it. You agree to:
- keep the rules of your pool clear to the people in it, including how much is paid and how winnings are shared, and keep any payouts you enter accurate;
- give a Venmo or Cash App username that is really yours;
- enter scores honestly and accurately, and correct mistakes;
- use Players' names, photos and payment details only to run that grid, and not share them or use them for anything else.
Some actions can't be undone. Locking a grid and drawing its numbers are final. We can't change them, redraw numbers or unlock a grid. Winners are worked out from the scores you enter, and we don't check them against the actual game.
7. Players
- Your name and any photo are visible to everyone with the link. Only pick squares on a grid if you're comfortable with that.
- An Organizer controls their grid. They can free your squares until the grid is locked, remove your photo, and tick you as paid or not. They see how you said you'd pay and any username you gave.
- Share links are private but not locked. Anyone with a link can view its grid. Share it only with people you mean to include.
- "Marked paid" is the Organizer's note. If you signed in, you can see it for your own squares. It isn't proof that a payment was made or received.
- Give accurate details, use your own name or a name people will know you by, and only give a Venmo or Cash App username that is yours.
8. Photos and other content
"Your Content" means what you add: names, team names, grid titles, causes, payout amounts, payment usernames and photos.
- You own Your Content. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, resize, process and display it only to operate and provide the Service. We don't use it for advertising and don't sell it.
- Photos are for pictures of yourself. You confirm that you have the right to upload any photo you add, and that it doesn't violate anyone's rights.
- We don't review content before it appears. It's visible as soon as it's saved. To report something, contact the grid's Organizer or email info@fillthesquares.com.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for anything illegal, or to run a pool for a business or as a commercial gambling operation;
- impersonate anyone, or give a payment username that isn't yours;
- use the Service to harass, threaten, defraud or deceive anyone, including by taking money for a pool you don't intend to run fairly;
- upload nudity or sexual content, any content sexualizing minors, photos of children, hateful or violent content, or content that infringes anyone's rights;
- create more than one account to get more free grids, or misuse someone else's share link;
- probe, scrape, reverse-engineer, overload or interfere with the Service or its security;
- use the Service outside the United States or if you're under 18.
We may remove content, disable a grid or suspend an account that breaks these Terms or that we receive a valid report about.
10. Changes, shutdown and termination
We may change, add or remove features. We may stop operating the Service for any reason, including if 3BSI LLC closes or can no longer run it. If we do, we will try to give Organizers at least 30 days' notice by email, and we will refund the fee for any grid that was paid for but couldn't be used because of the shutdown.
You may stop using the Service at any time, and can ask us to delete your information as described in our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, if required by law, or to protect people or the Service.
11. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTY THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR SECURE, OR AVAILABLE AT ANY PARTICULAR TIME, INCLUDING DURING A GAME.
12. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:
- WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE.
- WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ENTRY MONEY, WINNINGS OR ANY OTHER MONEY PASSING BETWEEN PEOPLE, INCLUDING MONEY THAT IS LOST, UNPAID, SENT TO THE WRONG PERSON OR DISPUTED, OR FOR THE ACTIONS OF ANY ORGANIZER OR PLAYER.
- OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AND (B) $50.
Some states don't allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising from Your Content, your violation of these Terms or of anyone's rights, or, if you're an Organizer, your grid and how you run your pool, including claims by its Players or by any government authority.
14. Dispute resolution: arbitration and class-action waiver
Informal resolution first. Before filing a claim, contact us at info@fillthesquares.com and try to resolve it informally for at least 60 days.
Binding arbitration. Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, as modified by this Section. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this agreement to arbitrate. Either party may instead bring an individual claim in small-claims court, and either party may seek injunctive relief in court for misuse of intellectual property.
How arbitration works. The arbitrator decides all issues except that a court decides questions about the class-action waiver and whether a claim belongs in small-claims court. Hearings take place by video or telephone, or in person in the county where you live. Fees are allocated under the AAA's Consumer Fee Schedule, under which we pay most of the costs of arbitration. The arbitrator may award any individual relief available in court.
Mass arbitration. If 25 or more similar demands are filed against us by or with the help of the same law firm or organization, they will be administered under the AAA's Mass Arbitration Supplementary Rules, and may be resolved in batches, to the extent those rules allow.
Class-action waiver. You and we may bring claims only individually, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative proceeding.
30-day opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing info@fillthesquares.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms. Include your name, your email or the grid you joined, and a clear statement that you opt out of arbitration.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan and applicable US federal law, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Subject to Section 14, any dispute not subject to arbitration will be heard exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Michigan, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. For material changes, we will notify Organizers by email or in the Service at least 30 days before they take effect. The version and effective date are shown at the top.
17. General
These Terms, together with the documents they reference, are the entire agreement between us. If any part is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, with notice to you.
